Meet Katie – Interiors Obsessive, Art Print Collector & Small Business Cheerleader
I spent most of my 20s climbing the corporate retail ladder until one day I realised I was completely over it.
I didn’t want to keep pouring all my time, energy and creativity into building someone else’s business. I loved retail, but I’d become disillusioned with the endless cycle of overproduction, constant discounting and products designed to be replaced a few months later.
I wanted to build something slower, more thoughtful and a bit more joyful.
Something that celebrated creativity, supported independent artists, and helped people create homes that actually felt like them.
That’s how Skudaboo began. Today, I work with independent artists to create art prints for people who want homes that feel colourful, cosy and full of personality. Pieces that help turn blank walls and rented rooms into spaces that feel warm, lived-in and personal.
Because I truly believe everyone deserves a home that feels good to come back to, whether you rent a tiny flat, own your forever home, or are still figuring things out as you go.
The Start of Skudaboo: From Pinterest Boards to Purpose
My love of interiors properly started back in 2019 when I moved into an unfurnished spare room in a shared flat.
It wasn’t the dream, but for the first time I had a completely blank canvas to make my own. Like most people, I disappeared down a Pinterest rabbit hole of gallery walls, colourful interiors and vintage-inspired spaces.
But when I actually tried buying art prints, I felt completely overwhelmed.
- What size frame did I need?
- What even is giclée printing?
- Where were all the cool independent artists hiding?
So I started researching. Then collecting. Then obsessively rearranging gallery walls.
Somewhere along the way, I completely fell in love with the world of interiors, and searching for unique artwork.
And eventually, Skudaboo was born.
Creating a Home that Reflects You
When I finally moved into my own flat, the obsession only grew. I realised there were probably loads of other people who wanted beautiful homes that felt just like them too, but didn’t know where to start.
I think there’s a lot of pressure online to have a perfectly styled home overnight, but most homes come together slowly.
- A favourite mug
- A print you bought on a whim
- A candle that makes your living room feel cosy after a long day
- A gallery wall that grows over time.
The best homes tell your story layer by layer.
That’s the feeling I want Skudaboo to help create.
Not perfect homes.
Personal ones.
Doing Retail Differently
Skudaboo is built around the kind of retail I wish existed more often.
After years working behind the scenes in big retail businesses, I saw how quickly creativity and care could disappear when everything became focused on speed, volume and profit margins.
I knew I wanted to do things differently. I’m not interested in building a giant marketplace packed with thousands of products. I’d rather create a carefully curated collection of pieces with personality. Things that make you smile every time you walk into the room.
Because good retail should feel good for everyone involved, from the artist creating the work to the person hanging it on their wall.

High-Quality Products & Care
Our prints are professionally giclée printed on premium fine art paper, designed to last for years, not months.
Being a small business means I can focus on quality over quantity, creating pieces with care and offering the kind of thoughtful service that’s hard to find in big retail.

Fair Pay for Artists & Creatives
I’m building a platform where everyone wins, from the artists and makers we feature to the people I work with behind the scenes.
Skudaboo is about celebrating small business, supporting creativity, and making sure people are paid fairly for what they do.

Sustainable Choices
All our prints are made to order to help reduce waste, and we focus on timeless pieces over fast-moving trends or big sales.
We also plant a tree for every order placed. Find out about our environmental impact here.]
What’s Next for Skudaboo?
Right now, Skudaboo is still small and I honestly love that.
It means I can stay hands-on, carefully curate every collection, work closely with artists, and keep building something that feels personal rather than mass-produced.
Over the next few years, I’d love to grow our artist community, expand into more homeware, and continue helping people create homes filled with pieces they genuinely love.
Thank you so much for being here and supporting small business. It genuinely means the world.
Katie x
